Baby Showers # 2 & 3

Baby shower number two was last Saturday on the 10th. My wonderful friend, Kasia was kind enough to throw me a baby shower in my ward. It was spring break so a bunch of people were out of town but we still had a great turn out and a fun time. Peter and I are big sports fans, so the baby shower theme was a Dallas Cowboys theme! It was so fun. We had Nachos Supreme, popcorn, pretzels, and a veggie tray to make us feel a little less guilty :).

Peter had been out of town that week recruiting so he sent me a little gift for the shower.


The first thing I said when I walked in was "Oh my gosh, look at that cute cake!!!" Brett, Kasia's hubby, said Peter had ordered it and he went to pick it up that morning. The top layer was white cake with a strawberry mousse and the bottom layer was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. So Yummy!
I'm not a huge fan of baby shower games but Kasia prepared the cutest thing. She videotaped Peter answering some questions and I had to guess his answers. It was really fun and now I have it on DVD so little Weston can watch it later on.

The only lame part was that I didn't even get a picture with Kasia! Thanks to everybody who came or sent a gift. I had no idea how much stuff a little baby requires!

Baby shower number 3. This was a little different experience for me. My awesome sisters-in-law decided to throw me a "virtual baby shower". At first I was like, "ok, how would that work" but they did a great job. Lorianne sent out an email to Peter's mom's side of the family and we did a conference call on the 13th. Peter's sisters Anje, Lorianne, Caroline, and Melissa were all on the line along with his mom and two of his aunts, one cousin, and even his 93 year old grandma! 10 of us in all. Everybody went around and gave advise and we all just chatted for about an hour. It was so fun! Since I couldn't get any pictures, Here's the advise that I got:
Grandma - She had 10 kids which means she was pregnant for eight years! She was going to have 17 kids but didn't quite make it. She said that there is nothing better than babies so just be grateful.

Anje - Get them on a routine and welcome them into your life. You already have a family in place, and welcome them in. Babies want to be on a routine and schedule; they will smoothly fit into it. Put feet up at the end of the day. Have fun. Sleep when they sleep. Let people help you. Say yes when people ask, let them serve. Your body will let you know when your working too hard. Husband should still be no. 1. Don't be afraid to leave your baby with somebody. Read the Book of Mormon to your kids-Elder Scott recorded himself reading the Book of Mormon so his kids could always listen to him read it.

Aunt Karen - having a baby on schedule is wonderful; always remember that a lot people have their opinions, but you know what is best for you and your baby; sometimes you have to respectfully listen to what people have to say.

Lauri (Peter's mom) - Don't stay up too late playing with them; morning comes too soon. Encouragement to go the Lord - lots of experts and experienced mothers, but go to the Lord and follow guidance in wisdom - He will give you more peace than any other approach. Before you know it, he will be in kindergarten then going on his mission so enjoy the ride. If nursing, at beginning is challenging, but see difficulties through, becomes easier and easier.

Melissa - See what feels best to you; only you will know will know what's best for your baby. Being a mother is so wonderful b/c you have your own divine inspiration and revelation.

Aunt JoAnn - Do what you feel is best because you have stewardship over your kids.

Kathrine - You can tell what kind of parent the child has from day one. One who hovers, one who is absent, one who sets parameters - those are the students that do the best. Parents who read to their kids every night, watches soccer games, and support their kids are the kids who excel. 99% of behavior issues stem from parents not getting over themselves and instead focusing on needs of child (but not to the extent that child develops big head). Routine matters whether you are one month old or 10 years old. Consistency shows child that you care.

Caroline - Don't forget to feed your mental, spiritual, physical, emotional health. Better you are doing, the better your baby will be.

Lorianne - Parents are their children's missionaries. It's up to the parents to establish a gospel centered life for their children.

It was so fun to talk to everybody. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive family. Even though Peter's family is spread out all over the country, it was fun to have them be a part of this exciting journey. We can't wait to see everybody for the baby blessing in June!
